Buyer review

“Although the chains on the head wore out quite quickly, I give 5+. The chimney hadn’t been cleaned for ages, and they handled the glassy soot well. Works perfectly for cleaning both from the top and bottom. I am very satisfied.”

Step 1: Preparation

  1. To avoid dirt, spread painter’s plastic sheeting on the floor where you will clean the chimney – in front of the fireplace or stove whose chimney you intend to clean, or in front of the cleanout opening if cleaning through that opening (NOTE: painter’s plastic sheeting is not included in the kit).
  2. Using a flashlight and pocket mirror, check the chimney flue’s clearance. If the chimney is coated with black, shiny tar, have a professional chimney sweep inspect it.
  3. Seal the opening through which you will clean the chimney (fireplace front or cleanout opening) by taping plastic sheeting over it (NOTE: not included in the kit). IMPORTANT! Never use the CYCLONE® kit to clean a warm chimney (heated chimney). The chimney must be cooled down before cleaning.
  4. Make a small cut in the plastic sheeting – large enough to fit the brush head.
  5. Attach the brush head to the rod.
  6. Extend the brush by attaching an additional rod.
  7. Attach the drill adapter to the second rod.
  8. Attach the adapter to the electric drill.
  9. Insert the brush with the rod into the chimney flue through the cut in the plastic sheet.

Step 2: Chimney cleaning

  1. Turn on the drill (only clockwise rotation allowed) and start cleaning the chimney flue by moving the rotating brush up and down. If possible, start at lower speeds and increase as soot begins to fall off.
  2. Carefully extend the brush reach by adding more rods. For each added rod, repeat step 1 from Preparation (NOTE: The drill must be completely turned off when adding or removing rods). IMPORTANT Never rotate the brush in one spot for too long: every rotational movement must be accompanied by manual up and down motion. Otherwise, friction may overheat the rods causing them to break.
  3. After cleaning, reverse steps 1-3. Disconnect each rod one by one while pulling out.

Step 3: Cleaning the device

  1. Remove soot fallen from the chimney flue using a fireplace vacuum (NOTE: using a household vacuum is not recommended as soot may clog its filter). Fallen soot can also be removed with a broom and dustpan.
  2. Rinse the brush head and rods in warm water with detergent, then dry.
  3. Store the brush head and rods in a safe, dry place until next use.

Cleaning the chimney top

  • If the chimney has a cap (hood or movable cap, e.g. rotowent type), be especially careful not to push the cap off with the brush. If you feel the brush touching the underside of the cap, slowly withdraw the device.
  • It is best to have another person observe the chimney from outside and notify the cleaner when the brush head reaches the chimney top.

Remember to follow safety regulations, wear appropriate protective clothing and personal protective equipment such as gloves, goggles, mask, and avoid using rubber-coated gloves (use gloves without an external rubber layer).
