Can any vehicle tow a trailer? Vehicle approval determines whether a given car can tow a trailer. The registration document in field 0.1 or 02 confirms this. It also shows the permissible maximum towing weight. Some cars cannot tow trailers but can have a towbar installed, for example, to mount a bike rack. 2. Do I have to install an electrical wiring harness for my towbar? Yes – this is mandatory. The wiring harness provides lighting for the towed trailer or bike rack. In some car models, especially newer ones, a lighting control module is also required. 3. Which wiring harness is suitable: 7PIN or 13PIN? The 7PIN harness provides basic lighting for the towed trailer (STOP lights, position lights, fog lights, and indicators). If the car will tow a trailer with a payload over 750kg, a 13PIN harness is required. It is also used for bike racks. The 13PIN harness includes reversing lights. This is important because the Road Traffic Act of 1.08.2016 requires reversing lights on trailers with a payload over 750kg. Using an electrical adapter, you can convert the vehicle socket from 13PIN to 7PIN and vice versa. However, reversing lights will not work if a 13PIN adapter is used on a car with a 7PIN socket! 4. Can the towbar be used immediately after installation? You must visit a Vehicle Inspection Station to perform a technical inspection immediately after installing the towbar. From that moment, the vehicle can be used with the towbar installed. Within 30 days of the inspection, you must obtain the appropriate entry in the registration document and vehicle card (if applicable) at the Vehicle Registration Office. 5. Does the towbar have the necessary approval? Every towbar in our offer has EU approval required to pass the technical inspection allowing the vehicle to be used with the towbar. Towbars have an approval plate or sticker located on the electrical socket base or the towbar beam. The approval document is not required for the inspection; confirmation on the nameplate is sufficient. 6. Which wiring harness to choose: universal or dedicated for a specific car model? Universal harness: Installing this electrical set requires intervention in the electrical system, such as soldering wires and using quick connectors. This set can be installed in various vehicles and is relatively inexpensive. Dedicated harness: This set has tailored wires and connectors matching the car's electrical sockets. It often requires vehicle system coding and is significantly more expensive than the universal set. 7. How does the universal wiring harness with module work and how to install it? Installation is simple and should not cause difficulties, but it is recommended to be done by an experienced person. The module works by detecting voltage in the vehicle's signal wire (e.g., indicator) when switched on, then sends voltage from the module to the trailer's indicator light socket. The module copies the car's light operation by activating corresponding lights on the trailer. The module must be powered by a constant positive supply. To connect the wiring harness, according to the diagram, connect the vehicle's signal wires to the module (indicators, STOP lights, fog lights, position lights, and for 13PIN harness reversing lights). Then connect the module wires to the socket as per the diagram. Finally, connect the module to power (the so-called "constant plus", preferably from a reliable power source, e.g., GP
