Description

Calprotectin’Alert - calprotectin test (intestinal inflammation) This test is designed for self-administration at home and does not require specialized equipment. Instructions are provided in Polish. Calprotectin’Alert is a rapid immunodiagnostic test for detecting calprotectin in stool when its concentration exceeds 50 μg of calprotectin per gram of stool. Calprotectin is the main protein found in neutrophils – cells that appear at sites of intestinal inflammation. Elevated calprotectin levels in stool indicate intestinal diseases. Calprotectin testing serves as a screening tool when inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), Crohn’s disease (CD), ulcerative colitis (UC), or colorectal cancer are suspected. The calprotectin test helps differentiate irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) from inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), thereby avoiding invasive colonoscopy. The Calprotectin’Alert test should be performed if symptoms such as diarrhea, weight loss, abdominal pain, bloating, changes in bowel habits, visible blood, or mucus in stool occur. The test can also be used as part of colorectal cancer prevention. Package contents: The package contains all materials necessary to perform the test: 1 aluminum, sealed pouch containing: 1 test cassette, 1 moisture absorber sachet. The test should remain sealed until use. Do not use the moisture absorber sachet. 1 paper stool sample collection pad 1 stool sample collection tube containing 3.5 ml diluent 1 instruction leaflet How does the Calprotectin'Alert test work? The incidence of inflammatory bowel diseases (such as Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis) is increasing, causing many people with symptoms similar to irritable bowel syndrome to undergo unnecessary invasive hospital procedures before diagnosis. Stool calprotectin testing (an inflammation marker) enables identification of IBS patients, reducing invasive procedures and associated risks. The Calprotectin'Alert test detects calprotectin above 50 μg/g stool using two monoclonal antibodies. One antibody is immobilized on the membrane at the test line (T), the other is conjugated to mobile red gold particles – producing a red line in this area if calprotectin is present in the stool. When should the test be performed? The Calprotectin'Alert test can be performed when persistent (4 weeks or more) or recurrent (2 episodes within 6 months or more) diarrhea and abdominal pain occur. Rectal bleeding, weight loss, or anemia may also increase the likelihood of intestinal inflammation. The test can be performed at any time of day. The test should not be performed on liquid stool. If diarrhea is present, consult a physician about testing liquid stool.
