Description
Catch Crop NARROW-LEAVED SWEET LUPIN Honey Plant C/1 SEEDS Grain 1kg
☘️Narrow-leaved sweet lupin variety Regent for catch crop:
- 1️⃣Polish name: Narrow-leaved sweet lupin.
- 2️⃣Latin name: Lupinus angustifolius
- 3️⃣Package size: 1 kg.
Natural nitrogen fixation | Soil loosening | High green biomass | Ideal pre-crop for cereals
☘️Advantages:
- ✔️Excellent pre-crop. After harvest, it leaves between 50 to 100 kg of pure nitrogen per hectare in the soil.
- ✔️Loosens soil: Penetrates hard layers (so-called plough pan), improving soil aeration.
- ✔️Helps nutrient movement: Transports phosphorus and potassium from deeper soil layers to zones accessible to other plants.
- ✔️Growing lupin between cereals reduces the occurrence of basal stem diseases.
- ✔️Frost tolerance: Young plants withstand temperature drops down to -6°C, allowing very early sowing.
- ✔️Compared to other legumes (like faba bean or pea), narrow-leaved lupin better tolerates periodic water shortages on lighter soils.
☘️Applications:
- ✔️Pre-crop – enriches and fertilizes the soil before subsequent crops.
- ✔️Green manure - improves soil nitrogen content and organic matter.
- ✔️Catch crop - after the main crop harvest, protects the soil and increases its fertility.
- ✔️Benefit for bees - provides nectar and pollen, especially during periods of limited availability of other flowering species.
☘️Sowing period:
✔️For pre-crop
- Period: from mid-March to mid-April.
- Sowing rate: 120–160 kg/ha)
- Germination: Starts already at 2-3°C.
- Young seedlings: Withstand temperature drops down to -6°C
✔️For catch crop
- Period: from mid-August to end of August
- Sowing rate: 120–160 kg/ha.
☘️Technical sowing parameters
- ✔️Sow seeds at a depth of 3-4 cm.
- ✔️ Optimal soil pH: 6-7
Narrow-leaved sweet lupin (Lupinus angustifolius) is one of the most important legume plants in Polish agriculture. Unlike bitter forms, sweet varieties have low alkaloid content, making them an excellent feed base.:
- 🌿Leaves: Lupin leaves are so-called palmately compound. This means that from one point at the tip of a long petiole, 5 to 9 narrow leaflets radiate outward, resembling an open hand with spread fingers.
- 🌸Flowers: Characterized by an intense blue color. Very attractive to pollinators. Blooms from July to October. Flowers 6–7 weeks after emergence.
- 🌱Root system: Strong taproot growing vertically downwards. Numerous but shorter lateral roots branch off. Reaches up to 1.5m deep into the soil.

☘️Worth knowing – facts❗
- ✔️Lupin is a plant that “sees” the sun (Heliotropism). Its leaves act like solar panels with tracking system. Thanks to special swellings at the base of leaf petioles (so-called pulvini), lupin can rotate its palmately compound leaves during the day so they are always positioned perpendicular to the sun’s rays.
