Red Japanese Maple, red-leaf variety is one of the most beautiful maples in the world, due to its stunning red-purple leaf coloration that lasts throughout the season. This species forms small picturesque trees often with a harmonious spreading crown. It grows to 2 – 3 meters, making it suitable for small gardens as well. From spring to late summer, the leaves are purple-red. In autumn, they turn fiery red. It can be planted both in containers and in the ground, serving as a wonderful backdrop for other plants, a component of interesting compositions, or an impressive solitary specimen on a lawn (a so-called soliter).

Japanese Maple is also suitable for creating miniature Bonsai trees, easy to shape and enjoys pruning (pruning causes the plant to thicken and grow faster). This species grows well in both sunny and shaded locations. For good development, it requires fairly fertile, slightly acidic, and moist soil. Frost-resistant, but better to protect younger plants during winter.

Sow seeds year-round, soak seeds in warm water for 24 hours, then stratify at 0 to 10°C for 90 – 120 days. Sow after stratification; seedlings are frost-sensitive. They should overwinter indoors for 2 – 3 years before planting in a permanent location.
