Zoolek test NO3 for nitrate measurement IN water

TEST NO3

Aquatest NO3- is used to determine the nitrate content, the final product of nitrogen protein transformation. It allows measurement in the range of 0-130 mg/l. The measurement is performed using a colorimetric method – reagents are added sequentially to a measured water sample according to the instructions, and the resulting color is compared with the color scale discs.

Why measure nitrate content?

Nitrates serve as nutrients for algae, and therefore concentrations above 40 mg/l in aquariums and ornamental ponds are undesirable.

At concentrations above 80 mg/l, they become harmful to fish, and highly harmful above 120 mg/l.

Exceeding permissible nitrate levels indicates an excess of protein waste substances.

Although the presence of nitrates in aquarium water is much less dangerous than ammonia and nitrites,

it is important to monitor and limit their amount in time.

How to prevent nitrate excess?

If concentrations exceed 40 mg/l, a partial or almost complete water change should be performed depending on the level of exceedance. Excess nitrates indicate the need to clean the aquarium, substrate, and filters, and sometimes also suggest reducing the number of fish.
