Buyer review

“I bought it without much hope for germination. Actually, I was sure nothing would sprout. But some plants appeared, so positive.”

Description

Patchouli(Pogostemon Cablin)

A perennial, bushy plant from the Labiatae family. Originates from tropical regions of Asia (India, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, the Philippines, Indonesia, southern China, and Malaysia). The heavy and strong scent of patchouli has been used for centuries in perfumes, incense, insect repellents, alternative medicines, and cosmetics. Today, a very valuable oil is distilled from the leaves, widely used in the modern perfume industry.

It grows up to 75 cm tall. The flowers are very strongly and pleasantly scented, blooming in autumn. Leaves are dark green and hairy.

Patchouli was especially popular in the 1960s and ’70s in the USA and Europe, mainly among hippies. The Hare Krishna movement also contributed to this popularity, as it was said that the god Krishna “resides” in patchouli. It is an important ingredient in incense in East Asia, where its scent drives away bad and negative energies. The scent of patchouli oil is perceived by Europeans as luxurious (likely related to the custom of ancient traders who kept their most valuable fabrics together with the plant’s leaves to protect them from insects when bringing goods from Asia).

Currently, patchouli has wide applications in modern industry (air fresheners, detergents, cosmetics). It is part of about one-third of perfumes produced today and over half of men’s perfumes. In Brazil, it is traditionally used for washing and refreshing clothes, and even as tea. In several Asian countries such as Japan and Malaysia, patchouli is used as an antidote for bites. The plant’s scent and oil are used in traditional medicine to induce relaxation. Chinese medicine recommends the herb for headaches, flu, colds, nausea, diarrhea, and stomach pain. In traditional Asian medicine, it is used as a relaxant and for headaches, stomach pain, and diarrhea. It has found its place among the best mosquito repellents.

Patchouli oil has antibacterial properties and is widely used in the perfume industry and aromatherapy (calms, boosts confidence, and fights moodiness). Patchouli is used for care of: oily skin, greasy hair, enlarged pores, cracked and damaged skin, skin sagging after weight loss, acne, eczema, dermatitis, varicose veins, cellulite.

Additionally, patchouli helps with nervous exhaustion and stress relief. It is also used as a conditioner for dreadlocks.

It is applied in cases of sexual coldness, making it one of the most valued aphrodisiacs worldwide.
