Wisteria is a climbing plant that grows up to 10 m tall and is considered one of the most beautiful climbers in the world. The fragrant flowers are purple, gathered in clusters up to 50 cm long. Wisteria blooms for the first time in the 2nd–3rd year of cultivation, flowers appear in May, blooming very long and abundantly. Wisteria can repeat flowering around July and August.

Wisteria is a fast-growing plant and under favorable conditions can reach up to 3 meters per year. Wisteria is suitable for planting near fences, creating a beautiful, dense, durable hedge, for planting along paths, to cover dead trees and pergolas. Wisteria is excellent as a Bonsai form thanks to its flexible shoots that can easily be shaped as desired. Wisteria is easy to cultivate, prefers sheltered, warm, sunny locations, likes moderately fertile soils, and due to the size of its leaves requires moist soil. The species is frost-resistant down to -20°C.
