Stair Light Fitting - Questions and Answers

Do I need a power supply for stair fittings and stair lights with motion sensors?

• No, our stair lighting and motion/daylight sensors are powered directly from 230V.

Will stair lights with sensors turn on during the day?

• No, our stair fittings with motion sensors have an additional daylight sensor that blocks operation during the day. Sliding the plastic sensor cover adjusts the light threshold at which the halogens turn on.

How to prepare wiring for recessed stair lighting?

• Wiring should be cascaded (from lamp to lamp) with a 3-core cable, e.g. 3x 0.75mm2, powered on one side with 230V (L+N). FI60 boxes should be flush with the plaster; for easier installation of sensor lamps (usually with more connections), boxes can be deepened. We recommend using Wago connectors for connections.

How is cascade stair lighting usually installed?

• Typically, stair fittings are installed every other step, about 15-20 cm above the tread. In corridors, fittings are usually installed every 1m; if installed on both sides, fittings can be staggered.

What to buy to have my stairwell light up automatically when going up and down?

• If the installation is 3-core, install the first and last fitting with motion and daylight sensors; the rest can be without sensors. All fittings will turn on automatically when ascending or descending.

What about LED bulbs for stair lights?

• We include one G4 LED 230V 2W bulb with wires with each stair fitting. Installation and replacement of bulbs in our fittings require no tools; just pull out the old bulb from the socket and insert a new one. Bulbs are available from us and other suppliers.
