Buddleja Davidii is a beautiful and rare plant in our climate, blooming for a long time from July to October. The very small flowers grow at the ends of the shoots in white, pink, blue, violet, purple, and other intermediate colors, gathered in dense clusters up to 40 cm long. They develop gradually, first on the main shoots, then on the side shoots. They emit a pleasant sweet aromatic scent that attracts all the butterflies in the area, hence Buddleja is called the “Butterfly Bush”, which from afar looks like a large, neatly arranged bouquet. It is the most valued flowering shrub.

Buddleja is a small plant, usually shrubs or small trees reaching up to 3 m in height and 2 m in width in our climate. It is also suitable for bonsai trees. The leaves are lanceolate, about 10–20 cm long, green on top and silvery underneath. The plant requires moderately fertile, alkaline, well-drained soil and grows well in dry, warm, sunny, and sheltered locations.

In spring, it is recommended to prune Buddleja heavily, as it blooms on current year’s shoots. Often plants bloom in the same year they are sown. The impressive flower clusters and very long blooming period contribute to the decorative value of this beautiful shrub. It looks stunning planted alone on a lawn. It also pairs well with other shrubs, summer flowers, and roses. Buddleja is fully frost-resistant in our climate, tolerating temperatures down to –24°C.
