To establish a lawn, start by preparing the soil, i.e.:

• destroy the old lawn mechanically or chemically
• fertilize with compost or deacidified peat
• it is also recommended to improve soil pH by applying lime
• dig over the sowing area manually or mechanically to a depth of 15-30cm,

Then level the ground and compact it by rolling the surface

After these steps, it is best to wait about two weeks for potential weed germination. If weed growth is abundant, it is recommended to apply a herbicide spray to reduce weed occurrence in the future lawn.

✳️After soil preparation, proceed to sowing the grass✳️

The best time to sow grass is from early April to the end of September. The sowing rate is 1kg of seeds per 40m2. The sowing period can be longer than recommended. Just remember that sowing and germination should not occur at temperatures near or below 0 degrees Celsius.

Sowing method: Before final sowing, loosen the soil with a rake, preferably creating furrows to sow the seeds in. Sowing should be done manually (cross sowing technique*) or with a seed drill.

*CROSS SOWING TECHNIQUE: First sow seeds in one direction, then perpendicular. This ensures even grass germination.

After sowing, rake the area again and roll it. Sowing is recommended on moist soil.

✳️After sowing, the next step is lawn care✳️

Until emergence, i.e. about 3 weeks, frequently mist the soil and water during dry periods. Afterwards, keep the soil moist throughout the growth phase, about 6 weeks.

✳️When to mow for the first time?✳️

The first mowing should be done when the grass reaches 8-10cm. Cut it back to 5 cm. Subsequent mowings should be done when grass is 6-8 cm, cutting it to 3-4 cm. The best visual results are achieved with frequent mowing. During periods of vigorous grass growth, apply lawn fertilizers according to the instructions on the fertilizer packaging.
